Going outdoors is good for you. Not just because it gets you active, either, although any activity is better than none, but because being in a natural environment promotes positive anti-stress changes in the body as well as the mind.

Similarly, deep breathing and yoga-type activities can have tremendous positive impacts. They’re not going to cure cancer, but they might help you manage your blood pressure with less medication.

If you needed another reason, or a purely practical reason, to interact with nature and develop some kind of meditation practice, there you go.

  1. Absolutely true. However, at the moment it’s winter in my hemisphere, and I live in a lovely rainy city I would not trade for any other place on earth. I’ve found it’s quite distracting to practice my yoga in the park while I’m getting rained on, and my bare feet are cold.

    Solution: do it anyway. Feet can be warmed, and “distractions” teach one better focus.

    But then, I’m a little nuts, and not only about my yoga, so YMMV. Widely.

  2. I am also in the Northern Hemisphere, and we’ve just started having truly cold, windy days where I am. I have to bundle up more, but doing that and still taking a walk in my favorite park is well worth the effort.

    I don’t think I’m up to yoga in the rain, though – I’m impressed! You’re not nuts, just finding your path. Congrats!
